Farmer's Market Applications for the 2016 Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) will be available in the beginning of June. For a list of distribution sites click here. The SFMNP is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and provides eligible participants with $50.00 worth of coupons to purchase fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from participating farmers. The purpose of the SFMNP is to improve the nutritional health of low-income seniors and to increase business for local farmers. Process and Guidelines The SFMNP coupons will be available on a first come, first served basis at designated senior centers or nutrition sites in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina counties. Applicants can only apply for the coupons in the county in which they live and at a site specified by their zip code. Proof of address will be requested. Participants must be 60 years of age or older and have a combined household income of 185% or less of the federal poverty-level guidelines. Household income includes not only all wages and salaries, but also such items as unemployment insurance, disability payments, retirement checks and regular rental receipts, as well as any personal business, investment or other income received routinely. Household residents do not have to be related to the head of the household for their earnings to be considered part of the household's income.
