Prioritizing Consumer Access

While developing the content for the conference, a survey to several groups of clinical professionals revealed specific gaps in their ability to help consumers access resources. Those surveyed indicated that there are several areas where they, as professionals, feel under educated as to where to direct their consumers for specific resources beyond what their own agency is providing. In effort to meet these specifications, the WRAAA Conference on Independent Living will provide breakout sessions that focus on local resources and how to access these resources in the areas of: Mental Health, Environmental Threats, Tools for Self-Care Management, Informal Caregiving and Access to Public Benefits.

Keynote Address

Compost and Constellations - A Wisconsin Journey through Successful System Change
Devon Christensen, Director of Brown County WI Aging and Disability Resource Center

Shrinking and strained budgets, daunting demographics, and fragmented services challenge our well intentioned aging programs. The development of new systems are no longer a “what if” they are a “how to” re-design our services to meet all of these growing demands. Developing new systems does not mean doing more with less, it represents doing things differently. Wisconsin has been on a 10 year journey to do things differently, to build programs and partnerships to reflect what the consumer wants and how they want to access them. This keynote address will help us discover that what we put in the ground and how we look up to the stars will impact how our network will grow.
