Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging Nutrition Programs
Nutrition program services are available to persons age 60 and older and their spouses regardless of age in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina counties. Services that are available are home delivered meals, congregate meals, Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, nutrition education and risk screening. Priority is given to frail, homebound or isolated older adults and consumers. Nutrition services are not available in every community.
Home delivered meals or known to many as “meals on wheels” provide safe and nutritious meals delivered to the home of an older person who is homebound because of illness or disability.
Congregate meals provide safe and nutritious meals, in addition to social interaction and activity at nutrition site. Sites include senior centers and other community focal points.
Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides $50.00 in coupons to consumers. Coupons can be redeemed for fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs and honey from farmers at farmers’ markets and roadside stands. This is a seasonal program available from June through October 31st.
Nutrition education and risk screening approved by a licensed dietitian and provided by other professionals in the aging network ensure that nutrition program services offer more that just a meal.
