Ohio’s Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
The Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, through funding from the Ohio Department of Aging and the US Department of Agriculture, is sponsoring a Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina Counties through October 31, 2010.
The purpose of the Ohio Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is to improve the nutritional health of low-income older adults and to increase business for local farmers throughout Ohio.
You are eligible if you are 60 years of age or older and have an annual income of $20,035 or less of poverty. Applications for the program are available at WRAAA authorized senior centers. A complete list of those centers is listed below. For contact information on these centers call 216-621-0303.
Eligible participants will receive one coupon set worth $50.00 to redeem for fresh produce and honey through WRAAA authorized farmers. Coupons can only be redeemed by a WRAAA authorized participating farmer who sells produce at farmers’ markets or roadside stands. A special sign is posted at eligible farmer stands so participants know which farmers accept SFMNP coupons. The Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging would like to thank each of our partner agencies in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties. Each organization volunteers countless staff hours, and without this dedication this program would not be possible.
